Welcome to the Career Explorer

The Career Explorer is a tool that can be used to learn about different jobs in Iowa including what wages you can earn and what training or education you need. Check it out below!

NOTE: If viewing on a computer, for the best experience, set your browser's zoom between 110% and 150%.  For more details on how to use this tool, click here.

Change the drop-down filters above to change the area, education/training requirements, and average wage. Each selection will customize the jobs available in the job list that you can browse. Select a job from that list, you will then see the estimated wages that can be earned in that job, education/training requirements, licensing/certification information, and information about top skills required and top employing industries. You can also click the 'play button' to view a video profile about that job.

There is also the ability to apply filters so that you only browse "Hot Jobs" or Registered Apprenticeship jobs. You can also apply a filter to only view jobs that would be related to a Last Dollar Scholarship. If you're only interested in STEM jobs, you can apply that filter too.

Once you've customized the information showing in the Career Explorer click the 'Download the PDF' button next to the job list selector. You can then download your customized view to a PDF and print it and take the information with you or save it to your device.

Lastly, there are tabs next to 'Career Explorer' at the top of the page. The 'Career Comparison' tab allows you to select multiple jobs at once so you can compare them by wages, education/training, and outlook. There is also a tab to explain different skill definitions, and finally a tab called 'MOS to SOC Crosswalk', which can be used to see which job titles in the civilian world (Standard Occupational Code-SOC) most closely align with a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS).
