About Local Area Boards

Iowa currently has five Local Workforce Development Areas (LWDAs), each of which holds a Local Workforce Development Board (LWDB). LWDBs were established under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).  Each Local Area Board oversees the implementation of America's public workforce system in local Iowa communities. Local Workforce Boards also work closely with Iowa Workforce Development and the Iowa State Workforce Development Board as part of a system that strengthens and improves Iowa's workforce. Local Workforce Boards help Iowans find and maintain high-quality jobs and develop careers. Each Local Workforce Board also helps Iowa employers hire and retain skilled workers.
