The Iowa Department for the Blind (IDB) is the state vocational rehabilitation agency for individuals who are blind or have low vision. Our mission is to empower blind Iowans to be gainfully employed and live independently.
IDB works to provide or assist individuals who are determined eligible for services to obtain a wide variety of services that assist in preparing for employment, finding employment, advancing in employment, and ultimately, being successful in your chosen career path. Individuals who are Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries or are Social Security Supplemental Income (SSI) recipients because of blindness are presumed to be eligible for VR services.
As an individual currently receiving or potentially eligible for SSDI or SSI, IDB will provide or arrange for assistance in understanding how working will impact any benefits you may be receiving. We will assist you in understanding ticket to work, PASS plans, trial work periods and other aspects of these programs and work incentives that many people find confusing.
