Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Services is an employment program for individuals who experience disability. VR serves individuals who are determined eligible for services, and a recipient of Social Security (SSI or SSDI) is considered "automatically eligible" for VR.
The goal of VR is to provide services to individuals who are interested in finding, maintaining or retaining employment. For those determined eligible, an individualized program plan would be developed to deliver the employment services needed based on each individual's unique needs.
An SSA beneficiary would be provided with benefits planning services from their local VR office or the state Benefits Planner employed by VR, depending on the complexity of a case. Each of the 13 VR offices has a benefits planner available to help inform beneficiaries about their disability benefits and use of work incentives.
