Unemployment

Iowa Workforce Development recently announced an update that will make the unemployment system more efficient and easier to use for employers.

As an employer, you will now use both IowaWORKS (for claims functions) and MyIowaUI (for tax functions) when handling the unemployment insurance needs for your business. Each application is an important tool, and the following page highlights the major uses of each system.

What's Changed

All claim-filing steps for individuals will now take place on iowaworks.gov, simplifying the entire process. Therefore, with the unemployment functionality added to iowaworks.gov, employers will also use the site to manage the unemployment insurance claims for their business.

Employers will still use the MyIowaUIsystem (as they do today) to handle all related unemployment tax functions, such as paying UI taxes, business registration, management of UI tax account.

IowaWORKS Tools: Unemployment and Job/Recruitment Features

The iowaworks.gov website already serves as a valuable workforce tool for employers to post jobs and recruit workers. IowaWORKS centers also provide employers with assessment tools to help identify a good match between employers’ job requirements and available applicants.

With the addition of unemployment functions in iowaworks.gov, employers will have both unemployment claims and their job posting/recruiting needs from one central system. While each business will have just one IowaWORKS account, you are allowed to have multiple users for handling the different functions within the system.

Instructions for Using the New System

The steps you will need to follow when using the new system on iowaworks.gov for the first time will depend on two factors -- whether you have used the IowaWORKS website in the past and what your current employer account information is on the MyIowaUI system.
