Description

Covering 570 square miles in west-central Iowa, Adair County is made up of a beautiful landscape dotted with seven rural communities: Adair, Bridgewater, Casey, Fontanelle, Greenfield (county seat), Orient, and Stuart and five major highways cross through the county: Interstate 80, US Hwy 6, Iowa Hwy 25, and Iowa Hwy 92. The county is served by 5 school districts. The 2010 census estimated a county population of 7,682 residents. The county has numerous visitor attractions, including the Iowa Aviation Museum, EE Warren Opera House, Adair County Heritage Museum, the original Freedom Rock, Henry A. Wallace Country Life Center (Birth Place of Henry A. Wallace), Historic Hotel Greenfield, and a Jesse James Historical Site, which was the location of the first robbery of a moving train.
