Description

Founded in 1851, Buena Vista County was named in memory of the Battle of Buena Vista in the Mexican-American War. Storm Lake is home to BVU, a four-year college and full of great activities and sites. Attractions include the Jessee J. and Mary F. Allee House, Harker House, Heritage Tree Museum, Historical Society and Witter Gallery. An annual "Marathon to Marathon" starting at Storm Lake and ending in Marathon is held. As a Home Base Community, Buena Vista has a strong commitment to veteran job placement, healthcare and education.
