Description

Founded in 1851, Clay County was named after Henry Clay Jr., a colonel who died in the Mexican-American War. Clay County has museums, theaters, sports, shopping, dining and each September it is home to the World's Greatest County Fair. Hunting, canoeing, fishing and pedaling on the bike trails are a few of the recreational opportunities available. As a Home Base Iowa Community, Clay County has a strong commitment to veteran job placement, health care and education.
