Description

Founded in 1834, Des Moines County is located in southeast Iowa and was named after the Des Moines River, which runs through both the city of Des Moines and the county. From a spring evening at Community Field watching minor league baseball to ice skating in beautiful Crapo Park on a sunny winter day, there is something for everyone. The Garrett-Phelps House Museum, which sits at the top of Snake Alley, was once considered the most crooked road by Robert L. Ripley, the creator of Ripley's Believe It, Or Not! As a Home Base community, Des Moines County has a strong commitment to veteran job placement, health care and education.
