Description

Founded in 1857, Dickinson County was named after Senator Daniel S. Dickinson and is the smallest Iowa county in land area. What the county lacks in size, it makes up in beautiful scenery. Dickinson County is home to glacier-carved lakes that cover approximately 15,000 acres. The Iowa Great Lakes include Iowa's largest natural lake, Spirit Lake and five interconnected lakes. Okoboji is Iowa's top vacation destination and some of the places to visit include Grab Goodies Handmade Candies, the Superior 71 Drive-In Theatre and the Okoboji Brewing Co at the Barefoot Bar. See classic cars, the history of boats at the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum and visit the Polaris factory where there is a remarkable display of Indian and Victory motorcycles. As a Home Base Community since January 2016, Dickinson County has a strong commitment to veteran job placement, health care and education.
