Description

Founded in 1834, Dubuque County is located along the Mississippi River, where the states of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin meet and was named after Julien Dubuque, the first European settler in Iowa. Visit the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, explore Eagle Point Park or the Mines of Spain or take a trip up the cliffs on the famous Dubuque Fourth Street Elevator. Dubuque Veterans Memorial Plaza is the Tri-States area's crown jewel when it comes to honoring veterans. The plaza commemorates 12 U.S. military conflicts ranging from the War for Independence up to military action in Iraq and Afghanistan. A six-ton granite globe sits as the centerpiece and a Vietnam War era Huey Cobra helicopter hovers above the memorial. As a Home Base Community, Dubuque County has a strong commitment to veteran job placement, health care and education.
