Description

Founded in 1851, Emmet County was named after Robert Emmet, an Irish patriot and traitor to the British government. A little known fact about the county is that the first recorded use of the term "blizzard" occurred in the Estherville Northern Vindicator newspaper in 1870. Another fun fact: a 455 pound meteorite fell just north of Estherville in 1879. It is one of only six observed falls and is on public display at the Meteorite Center. Take time to visit the incredible Fort Defiance State Park, bowl, play golf and more. As a Home Base Community, Emmet County has a strong commitment to veteran job placement, health care and education.
