Description

Founded in 1851, Guthrie County was named after Captain Edwin B. Guthrie who died in the Mexican-American War. Covering 591 square miles in west-central Iowa, Guthrie County is made up of beautiful rural landscape. Just a short 30-minute drive from the Des Moines metropolitan area, the county is home to two private lake developments, Lake Panorama and Diamondhead Lake. Hiking, biking, camping and canoeing offer plenty of options in Guthrie County.
