Description

Founded in 1851, Palo Alto County was named after the first battlefield victory in the Mexican-American war. Kearney State Park is located in Emmetsburg, Iowa where visitors can swim, fish, camp and enjoy the outdoors. Inside the city of West Bend is the Grotto of the Redemption. This is the largest collection of rock and semi-precious stones in existence. The Blarney Stone, a gift from residents of Dublin, Ireland can be found outside of the courthouse. Another place to visit in Emmetsburg is the Veterans Memorial which is open all day for public viewing. As a Home Base Community since May 2016, Palo Alto County has a strong commitment to veteran job placement, health care and education.
