IowaWORKS Career Planner Services to Become Available at the Vocational Rehabilitation Ames Office  

The Move Represents Further Steps to Align Related Workforce Services

Ames, IA – The services of IowaWORKS career planners will soon become available at the Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services office in Ames, to better align workforce services and serve area job seekers from a similar location.

Career planners at IowaWORKS currently are available for services on Wednesdays at the Ames Public Library (515 Douglas Avenue, Ames, IA 50010). Starting the week of February 29, IowaWORKS career planners instead will be available on Thursdays each week at the Vocational Rehabilitation Services office (819 Wheeler Street, Suite 6, Ames, IA 50010). 

The move will improve coordination between job programs that often overlap, including for Iowans with disabilities. In 2023, Vocational Rehabilitation became a division under Iowa Workforce Development as part of state’s alignment efforts to improve overall services.

IowaWORKS will continue to work with partners, including the Ames Library, on local events that offer hiring or career support. Job seekers can visit iowaworks.gov at any time to access related career services.

β€œThe addition of career planners into the Ames Vocational Rehabilitation office improves our capability to effectively serve more customers, whether they have a disability and/or are looking for help in creating a successful career path,” said Linda Rouse, Division Administrator for the American Job Centers at Iowa Workforce Development. β€œWe welcome any Iowan in Ames or the surrounding area to take advantage of the one-on-one approach offered by our career planners.”

IowaWORKS Career Planners specialize in individualized, one-on-one services, which can include:

  • Resume building
  • Mock interviews
  • Help with filing for unemployment and creating a reemployment plan
  • Connections to workshops and employer programs
  • And much more
