Iowa Workforce Development and its Vocational Rehabilitation Services Division are highlighting National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) during the month of October, and the many contributions and talents that Iowans with disabilities bring to our our stateβs workforce.
On Oct. 12, 2023, Governor Reynolds signed a proclamation marking October in Iowa as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

Proclamation
'WHEREAS, the goal of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is to celebrate Iowans with disabilities and to value their many contributions and talents in our state's workforce; and
WHEREAS, many public and private entities in Iowa have dedicated their efforts to supporting, training, and assisting those Iowans that bring unique abilities and skills to our labor force, and their continued support is vital to the success of our state; and
WHEREAS, the State of Iowa believes that long-term investments in rehabilitative workforce programs that help Iowans with disabilities find successful pathways must remain a priority for years to come; and
WHEREAS, support for these employment pathways not only benefits an individual's independence and self-sufficiency but also benefits the success of the communities and employers who support them; and
WHEREAS, Iowa has made it a focus to streamline services for Iowans with disabilities and connect them to great opportunities, including through the alignment of Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Iowa Workforce Development in 2023; and
WHEREAS, the long-term success of our economy will greatly rely on our ability to empower every individual who is able to work and express their talents in the workforce, including Iowans with disabilities who are great contributors to our workforce needs; and
WHEREAS, Iowa is committed to cultivating a positive, welcoming environment where individuals can pursue opportunities that welcome their skillsets and help them reach their career goals.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kim Reynolds, Governor of the State of Iowa, do hereby proclaim October 2023 as:
Disability Employment Awareness Month in Iowa.
