IWD Continues to Support Iowans with Disaster Unemployment Assistance
Encourages Iowans with Questions Urged to Contact the Agency.
DES MOINES, IOWA – Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) is reminding Iowans whose employment or self-employment was disrupted from recent area disasters that they may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA). DUA is an expanded benefits program made available following a Presidential Disaster Declaration.
IWD is currently accepting applications for DUA in the following impacted counties:
Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Humboldt, Lyon, Monona, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pottawattamie, Sioux, and Woodbury Counties (Storms and Flooding that Began on June 16, 2024):
- Assistance is currently approved for up to 27 weeks, and applications are due on August 23, 2024.
DUA was also recently available in the following areas (applications filed after the deadline will be considered untimely, unless the individual provides good cause).
Adair, Polk, Story, Montgomery, Adams, Cedar, and Jasper Counties (Storms on May 20-21, 2024):
- Assistance was approved for up to 26 weeks. Applications were due on July 23, 2024.
Clarke, Harrison, Mills, Polk, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Shelby, and Union Counties (Storms on April 26, 2024):
- Assistance was approved for up to 29 weeks. Applications were due on July 13, 2024.
Any Iowan in impacted areas who believes they may be eligible can contact IWD for assistance. If any current DUA recipient receives a letter from IWD regarding next steps and has any questions, IWD encourages them to contact the agency using the following information:

How To Apply
Individuals who may be eligible for assistance, must file a claim online with Iowa Workforce Development’s Unemployment Benefits Online Application System (workforce.iowa.gov).
After a claim application has been submitted, refer to the additional DUA information on our website at workforce.iowa.gov/dua.
